Info. Technology / Computer Systems Online Degrees
Most institutions do not provide a degree that is about both information technology and computer systems. Where you major in one, you might be able to have a focus in the other.
To work in the field of IT, you could start off with even the most basic qualification: a high school diploma. Obviously this would reflect in how much you earn. But whether this is your first qualification in IT/ computer systems, there are many options available online. You could earn an associate degree, a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a range of flexible programs that are available online.
The curriculum of an IT major would focus more towards a management than a computer systems major. In an IT degree, the course load would look something like this:
- courses in programming
- management information systems
- systems analysis and design
- database administration
- project management
- net security
- database management
- operating systems
- networking
- law
- marketing
A degree focusing more on computer systems will contain the following central courses:
- systems management
- information security
- algorithmic design
- information systems analysis and design
- database systems design
- information systems development
- software engineering
- discrete mathematics
- manufacturing methods
- engineering project management
For those of you who want to understand which degree is better suited for their career plans, the courses offered in both will reflect the right degree path!
