Nursing Online Degrees

There is a growing demand for nurses in the US that is not proportionately being satisfied. It is predicted that this demand will continue to increase the coming years. Part of this increase is due to the spike in nursing homes, old homes and hospices. This demand obviously creates a competitive and well paid job market for those who want to participate in this career. Online degrees in nursing are also an added bonus for those areas that do not offer training in nursing sciences; the geographical problems are erased through technology.

It is essential for a nurse to be registered in order to practice. If you take a faster path towards this career, you could be a Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN, which is a one year training program. You would have to be working under a registered nurse.

Online programs are designed to augment the skills of practising nurses without infringing on their schedules beyond necessity. Alternately, they can seek specialization through related online programs. Registered nurses, who earn more than LPNs, can work their way up to a BSc. Nursing and some with sufficient experience would also possibly enrol in a program leading to a MSc Nursing.

Nursing specializations include:

  • emergency nurses
  • critical care nurses
  • ambulatory nurses
  • radiology nurses
  • perioperative nurses
  • forensic nurses

If you aim to work towards a career in administration or management, there are MBA programs available online. These combine the graduate coursework for nursing studies with the management and business syllabi relevant to the medical/ nursing industry.
