Online PHD Degrees

This is probably the most sought after, hard to earn level of qualification in any subject area. Most people venture towards a doctoral degree after years of work experience in a field so as to develop a specific focus that they would like to research during their PhD.

You can either work towards a research doctorate or a professional doctorate. The former can be in any subject area or field and will be awarded after you establish a research that is peer evaluated and is of publishing standards. A professional doctorate is one like a Medical doctorate (MD) or a Juris Doctorate (JD). These doctoral degrees prepare you to be licensed in your chosen profession.

A doctoral degree usually consists of at least five years of education: 2 years completing master’s level coursework or research and 3 for your doctorate.

Most successfully completed doctorate degrees will earn you the title of Doctor of Philosophy; PhD. Alternatively, there are some specializations that confer a different prefix: PsyD, Doctor of Psychology or EdD, Doctor of Education.

Most of your doctoral degree will be spent conducting research. The expenses of your degree usually come from a grant that the university awards you when you are a successful applicant in a program. That grant money is for you to judiciously employ in your research, be it used on machines, or other capital.
